Background

I grew up in Johnson City, Tennessee and attended a bit of college at East Tennessee State Univ.  In 1998 I moved to Lake Tahoe where I enrolled at Sierra Nevada College and got a job working as a ski patroller at Diamond Peak ski area.  During this time I completed my bachelors degree in Business Administration (with a concentration in Ski resort managment).

It was while attending school that I met my soon to be wife, Kari.  She was working full time as a snowboard instructor at Diamond Peak Ski Resort and part time as a nanny.  The interesting part of the nanny job was that it provided me my first 'client' for regular handyman services.  The woman she worked for often had lots of little things from me to do.  She joked that I should start a business called 'Rent A Husband' since she had such a hard time getting her husband to do the things around the home that she paid me to do.  .

Work History

I have had many great jobs since I was 16 including ski patroller, lifeguard, dishwasher, bar tender, etc.  During summers at the ski resort I was employed on different construction projects such as snow making improvements, and lift maintenance and new lift construction.  I became the Lift Manager and oversaw a crew of 40+ during the season and managed all aspects of the lift department.

A ski resort takes quite a beating during the winter and our job was to spend the summers putting it back together to make it clean, nice and ready for all to use when the snow began to fall.  We would paint the lodge, remodel the bathrooms, put new floors in the kitchen areas, paint the ski lifts towers (that was one of my favorite things), help the mechanic maintain snowmobiles and snowcats, rebuild and repair the decks, etc.

In late 2006 my family and I moved from Lake Tahoe to Portland to be near some family.  This was a big leap for me as all I had done prior was work at a ski resort - management or not.  Luckily, I found a great big ski lift in Portland.  I worked for a company named
Doppelmayr CTEC which designed, manufactured, and built the Portland Aerial Tram

In 2010 my career path took a new and exciting turn as I was hired to become a fireman for Portland Fire and Rescue.  I am happy to say that I completed a long and tough training process and am happily working as a firefighter throughout the 30 stations around Portland.
